Bangalore, Jun 11 (UNI) For the first time ever, Tirumala Tirupati Devastanams (TTD) will organise Sri Srinivasa Kalyanotsava at the sprawling Palace Grounds in the city on June 22.
Disclosing this to newsmen here TTD Joint Executive Officer Dharma Reddy said the major religious event would be attended by over two lakh devotees.
Replying to queries he said the purpose of organising the celestial wedding of the Lord Venkateswara was to ensure the devotees, who could not make it to the seven hills and witness the daily Kalyanotsavam due to various reasons including the long waiting period, watch the religious event.
As against a mere 1200 people who could witness the Kalyanotsavam at Tirumala daily, this kind of event would enable over two lakh devotees to witness the great event even from one kilometre away through closed circuit television facility.
The waiting period for booking Kalynotsavam at Tirumala now was over three years, he revealed.
Answering a question he said the event would take nearly three hours as against one and a half hours held in Tirumala. The speciality of the event was that eminent singers would take over and sing Saint Annamacharya's sankirthans during the Kalyanotsavam, while Archakas would be brought from Tirumala to perform the rituals.
He said TTD had so far organised 50 such Kalyanotsavams outside Tirumala so far including far off places like Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai. Records had also shown that Annamacharya, the ardent devotee of Venkateswara, had organised such Kalyanotsavams in the 16th century in surrounding villages of Tirumala for the benefit of villagers then, he added.
