Syam lauded for bagging National Film Award

Imphal, Jun 11: The film fraternity of Manipur lauded Aribam Syam Sharma for winning the National Award for his non-feature film 'Guru Laimayum Thambalngoubi Devi' announced yesterday in New Delhi.

Mr Syam's 30-minute film bagged the Best Award for the Biographical/Historical Reconstruction/Compilation film at the 54th National Film Awards for 2006.

The award was shared with Malayalee film maker MR Ranjana's 'Minukku'.

The film producers-- Mr Syam for 'Guru Laimayum Thambalngoubi Devi' and Devadesan Keezhpatt and Bina Narayan for 'Minukku' will share the 'Rajat Kamal'(silver lotus) and a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

The director duo will also get the Rajat Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

The citation said, ''The Award for the Best Biographical/Historical Reconstruction/Compilation film of 2006 is given for the simplicity and grace with which the director has related the story of the great Manipuri dance and theatre artist Guru Laimayum Thambalngoubi Devi.'' K Bikram Singh headed the six-member Non-Feature Film Jury.
