Shantaram seeks more encouragement to Konkanni film producers

Panaji, Jun 11 (UNI) President of All India Konkanni Parishad and MP Shantaram Naik today congratulated Rajendra Talak, producer and director of Konkanni film 'Antarnaad', for bagging best director and best film awards at the 54th National Film Awards, announced in New Delhi yesterday.

In a release, Mr Naik said Mr Talak deserved special appreciation and encouragement from the people of Goa and the state government for getting three National awards and two awards in the regional film category for the film.

He said June 10 would be recorded in the history of Konkanni cinema, which is presently at a very nascent stage, as a Golden Day.

Mr Naik suggested that the state government should review its policy of funding the production of Konkanni film to give more encouragement to Konkanni film producers.

He also appealed to Mr Talak not to discontinue production of Konkanni films, a decision that he had reportedly taken a year back in view of certain criticism made against him.

Mr Naik said hard and sincere efforts, if made by Mr Talak for producing standard films, will not go unrecognised.

He appealed to other producers too to put in their best so that, one day, Konkanni film is nominated for Oscar award.
