Professor suspended on charges of sexual harassment

Ahmedabad, Jun 11 (UNI) Gujarat University has suspended a Professor on a charge of sexually harassing a girl.

Prof Manoj Shastri, who is married, lured an unmarried girl, promising to marry her and allegedly exploited her for several years. When the girl tried to free herself from his clutches, Shastri started threatening her of dire consequences, University sources said.

The girl lodged a complaint against Shastri with the police, but by that time Shastri had already fled, the sources said.

Following this, students union held a demonstration in the University demanding action against Shastri.

Later, the University formed a five-member committee to probe the incident and on the basis of report of the Committee, they decided to suspend Shastri with immediate effect yesterday, the sources said.
