Police fires teargas shells to disperse demonstrators in Srinagar
Srinagar, Jun 11 (UNI) Police today fired tear gas shells and resorted to baton-charge to disperse the demonstrators in the down town city, protesting against the price rise.
Official sources said a group of people, mostly youths, assembled at Nowhatta chowk, near the historic Jamia Masjid and started raising slogans against the price rise and government.
However, when they blocked the traffic and tried to march towards the city, police swung into action and resorted to lathicharge.
When the lathicharge had no affect, police fired several rounds of teargas shells to disperse them and brought the situation under control.
A number of demonstrators were injured in the incident, they said.
