One more arrest in Shiv Sena corporator murder case

Mumbai, Jun 11 (UNI) City crime branch sleuths arrested one more person, besides 11 others including gangster-turned-MLA Arun Gawli, in connection with the murder of Shiv Sena corporator Kamlakar Jamshandekar on March 2 last year.

Mutka king Prakash Chawla was arrested late last night from Borivali by crime branch sleuths after his name was revealed during interrogation of other co-accused in the case.

He was today produced before Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act Judge V G Joshi, who remanded him to police custody till June 17.

Investigating officer Ashok Duraphe said during interrogation of other accused, it came to light that Chawla had paid Rs five lakh to sharp shooters to eliminate Jamshandekar. It was also revealed that he used to pay money for socio-cultural functions like Navratri celebration, Ganpati celebration and for other needs of Gawli to run underworld syndicate activities.

The other accused include gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli, Dinesh Narkar, Srikrishna Gurav alias Babu, Vijay Kumar Giri, Narendra Giri, Anil Giri, Ashok Jaiswal, Sahebrao Bhintude, Sadashiv Surve, Surendra Panchal and Sandeep Dongan. Gawli was arrested on May 21 in connection with Jamshandekar's murder.

They were booked under section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC), 3 (1)(ii), 3 (2), 3(4) and 4 of stringent MCOCA and 3 and 25 ofr Arms Act.

It may recalled that Gawli had given a 'supari' (contract) of Rs 60,000 to kill Jamsandekar to four people through his associate and Akhil Bharatiya Sena member Srikrishna Gurav alias Babu.
