Fresh violence witnessed in Haveri
Haveri, June 11 (UNI) The Violence hit Haveri town witnessed fresh violence today when the body of the farmer Siddalingappa Choori killed in yesterday's police firing was being taken out in a procession.
People going along the funeral procession objected to the presence of police who accompanied them to provide security. Some of them started pelting stones at them. They also damaged a police van and assaulted a police officer.
Despite the ban orders under section 144 of the Cr P C, hundreds of people took part in the procession through the town.
Violence also erupted in other parts of the town where a Ryot Samparka Kendra was ransacked and a bus was set on fire by the protestors. They also pelted stones at the office of Deputy Superintendent of police.
Police burst teargas after mild lathicharge failed to quell the stone pelting mob and brought the situation under control. Haveri town was slowly limping back to normalcy.
Farmers' organisations held protest meetings in various parts of the state and condemned yesterday's firing incident.
Ban orders under section 144 of Cr PC had been clamped in the town till tomorrow.
