Empty oil tankers derail, traffic hit

Tiruchirapalli, June 11 (UNI) Train services on the Tiruchirapalli- Dindigul section were affected as nine empty oil tankers of a goods train derailed between Samuthiram and Manapparai railway stations near here today.

Railway sources said the goods train was coming to Tiruchirapalli from Madurai when the accident occurred.

Seven oil tankers fell on either side of the track and two partially on the track. Engineering staff from Tiruchirapalli and Madurai rushed to the spot to put the tankers back on the track.

The work was expected to be completed by evening.

As the movement of trains on the section was shelved, the Chennai Guruvayur-Chennai expresses in both directions, Dindigul- Tiruchirapalli and Madurai-Mayiladuthurai passenger trains would be affected, the sources added.
