Chit fund fraud by couple in Pondy
Puducherry, June 11 (UNI) Police today registered a cheating case against a couple, who had allegedly duped gullible public to the tune of Rs 15 lakh by running a chit fund, at Murugambakkam, near here.
Police said Janakiraman and his wife Kannammal, who were running a chit, failed to pay the money to those who secured the chit through auction.
The public, who lodged a complaint with the Mudaliarpet police, alleged that the couple had purchased several properties out of the chit money and urged them to return their money by selling the property.
On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case and were investigating.
Meanwhile, the couple was absconding.
