Central Bank identifies 4.22 lakh farmers under debt waiver scheme

Mumbai, Jun 11 (UNI) The Central Bank of India will cover 4.22 lakh farmers, under the debt waiver scheme, with the amount involved being Rs 1,200 crore.

The bank, in a release here, said that its machinery has been geared up to implement the scheme, which would also benefit 86,000 farmers to the tune of Rs 200 crore, under the debt relief scheme.

The scheme details have already been displayed in the branches of the Bank, in local languages. The Bank has appointed and notified Grievance Redressal Officers, as well as Nodal Officers, as required under the scheme. Multiple teams have been set up at Regional Offices for monitoring and checking the details of borrowers and the amount involved. Separate teams have also been set up to process requirements of fresh loans to eligible farmers.

The Bank is very confident of completing the various requirements like display of eligible borrowers list, even before the set deadlines.

The project is driven directly by the Chairperson and Managing Director Ms H A Daruwalla, who has already started visiting branches for spot verifications. Both the Executive Directors and various General Managers at Corporate Office and the Zonal Managers were also visiting the branches to encourage the staff and to expedite the whole process.

As Convenor of State Level Bankers Committee in the State of Madhya Pradesh, Central Bank of India has already convened a Steering Committee Meeting of all the Banks on June 4 for smooth implementation of the scheme.
