CB-CID police solve murder of TV channel head

Madurai, June 11 (UNI) In a breakthrough, Tamil Nadu Crime Branch CID (CB-CID) police arrested seven people in the sensational murder of the Managing Director of a local television channel, after two-and-a half years of intensive probe, here today.

Addressing a press conference here, CB-CID Superintendent of Police A Arun told newspersons that M Gandhi (46), who was running Vaigai TV, a local television channel, was brutally murdered by a gang on December 16, 2005, at Shenoy Nagar in the city. Mathichiyam police had registered a case. Later, the case was transferred to the CB-CID wing. Nine special police teams had been formed to probe the murder case.

Investigations revealed that due to business rivalry, three cable television operators in the city had hired a five-member team from Tirunelveli and eliminated Gandhi. In all, 12 people were involved in the murder case. However, two of them were hacked to death by their rivals in another incident.

Three persons were still absconding and search was on to nab them, he added.
