35-year-old woman shot at in robbery bid

New Delhi, Jun 11 (UNI) In an attempted robbery bid, a 35-year-old woman was shot at by unknown miscreants in Mayur Vihar area of east Delhi this morning.

Santosh Kumari was hit in her chest and was presently recuperating at the Holy Family hospital, according to the police.

The incident took place at about 0630 hrs in Chilla village when Santosh and her sister Sudesh (23) were making cow dung cakes. Two men came on a motorcycle and asked them to part with their valuables, which they refused.

After the ladies started shouting and blocked their way one of them fired at Santosh. She was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital but later referred to Holy Family hopsital.

Meanwhile, Sudesh held the other one from behind and with the help of others handed him over to the police. The one sitting on the front of the motorcycle, however, managed to flee.

On interrogation, the accused gave his name as Umesh and that of his absconding accomplice Sanjay, which was being verified, police said adding ''A case of armed robbery has been registered.'' UNI AN BDP AS2114
