Lucknow, Jun 10: Only a day after Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Vikram Singh's clean chit, the state police today arrested sacked UP minister Jamuna Nishad in connection with the killing of a police constable inside the Maharajganj Kotwali police station on June 7.
Last evening, the DGP had claimed there was no prima-facie evidence against the former minister in the case. District Police Chief Akhil Kumar said he was arrested from Dalibagh ministers' residence and would be taken to Eastern UP town of Mahrajaganj, the scene of crime. An FIR was registered against the minister and his 50 supporters for allegedly killing the police constable inside the Maharajganj kotwali police station. They had barged into Kotwali to put pressure on the police to lodge a rape complaint against a culprit of his area.
After the incident, Chief Minister Mayawati had immediately asked for his resignation which was subsequently accepted.
