Sensex struggles below 15K level in opening trade

Mumbai, Jun 10 (UNI) Sensitive index today struggled below 15K level extending the previous day loss on sustained selling pressure in the opening trade.

Sensex was 150 points down at 14,916 in the mid-morning trade while broader-based Nifty was 50 points down at near 4,450 level.

Hindustan Unilever was down by 2.17 per cent to Rs 228, ITC down 1.55 per cent to Rs 203.85 and United Spirits was slightly down at Rs 1,454.

HDFC Bank declined by 3.27 per cent to Rs 1,145, Satyam Computer Services was down by 1.82 per cent to Rs 482.45 and Tata Consultancy Services down 1.82 per cent to Rs 900, were other losers from the Sensex pack.

Idea Cellular declined by 0.64 per cent to Rs 100.90. The Aditya Birla group-controlled Idea Cellular is reportedly set to acquire the 40.8 per cent stake held by the Modis in Spice Communications for around Rs 2,200 crore.

However, SpiceJet rose by 4.89 per cent to Rs 34.50. South-Indian based airline Paramount Airways has reportedly joined the race to acquire a stake in low-cost carrier SpiceJet. Recently, there were reports that the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) had evinced interest in the airline.
