Red Ribbon Express to arrive in T'palli tomorrow

Tiruchirapalli, Jun 10 (UNI) The Red Ribbon Express, traversing across the country to create awareness on HIV/AIDS, will arrive here tomorrow.

District Collector T Soundiah, in a statement today, said necessary arrangements have been made for the two-day campaign of the train.

He said Tiruchirapalli would be the 101st halt of the train travelling about nearly 9,000 km across the country covering a total of 180 stoppages.

The train, comprising seven coaches, is part of a nation-wide campaign by the National AIDS Control Organisation, the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and the Indian Railways to spread the message on HIV/AIDS across the country.

The train would be stationed at Tiruchirapalli Railway Junction on June 11 and 12 and open for visitors between 0900-1800 hrs, he added.

Red Ribbon Express is equipped with educational material on HIV/AIDS, interactive touch screens, doctor's cabins for providing counselling and treatment advice to patients. Health, development and counselling desks would be set up during the train's halt.

Cultural teams in the train during the halt would peddle travel.

15 to 40 km on bicycles everyday to reach out to residents in 48 villages by presenting cultural programmes, he added.
