Railway revenue earnings up 19.85 per cent

New Delhi, Jun 10 (UNI) Riding on its improved performance in both the passenger and freight segments, the Railways earned Rs 13334.72 crore during the first two months of the current fiscal compared to Rs 11125.95 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 19.85 per cent.

The goods earnings went up from Rs. 7383.35 crore during April-May 2007 to Rs 9121.74 crore during the corresponding period this year, an increase of 23.54 per cent.

The passenger revenue earnings during the period were pegged at Rs 3727.58 crore compared to Rs 3319.96 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.28 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 357.81 crore compared to Rs 316.63 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 13.01 per cent.

The total sundry earnings went up from Rs. 108.01 crore to Rs.

127.59 crore during April-May 2008, showing a growth of 20.36 per cent.

The number of passengers booked during April-May 2008 were 1155.35 million compared to 1097.26 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.29 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-May 2008 were 601.06 million and 554.29 million compared to 582.85 million and 514.41 million during the same period last year, an increase of 3.12 per cent and 7.75 per cent respectively.
