Maharashtra: Monsoon hit death count rises to 10

Mumbai, Jun 10: With one person being electrocuted, the toll in the rain-related incidents in the metropolis since Friday has risen to ten. Disaster Cell of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said here today one Mohammed Shiraj (35) was electrocuted at Goregaon at 1800 hrs yesterday. The death raised the toll to ten following incidents like wall collapse, vehicles skid, electrocution and others.

During the last 24 hours ended 0830 hrs, rainfall recorded in Colaba was 65.0 mm, while Santacruz was 62.4 mm. During the last five days, Colaba received 364.8 mm of rainfall and at Santacruz it measured 429.1 mm, Disaster Cell official informed.

There is no water logging in the city and road traffic was running as usual. While Central Railway trains are running five to 10 minutes late, Western Railway trains were on time, Railway Control Room officials said.

Meanwhile, the Meterological Department forecast rain or thundershowers with likeliness of heavy to very heavy rainfalls and strong gusty winds in parts of city and suburbs in next 24 hours.

The Meterological Department has said due to active monsoon condition, markable squally weather will continue to prevail along and off the city and Goa port. Fishermen are advised to remain off the shore for next 24 hours.
