Monsoon active in Kodagu District
Madikeri, June 10 (UNI) South West Monsoon is active in Kodagu, the birth place of river Cauvery, and the Kodagu District has registered an average rainfall of 373.34 mm rainfall from January to June 9 this year against 185.52 mm rainfall received last year during this period.
According to official sources Madikeri registered 502.42 mm rainfall till date and it had rained 198.50 mm last year. Virajpet received 349.5 mm rainfall so far and it had rained 222.67 mm last year. Somwarpet has received 268.10 mm rainfall this year and it was just 135.9 mm last year.
Deputy Commissioner K R Niranjan, addressing Ahaar Adalath meeting here yesterday, instructed the Food and Civil Supplies department to store enough food materials in flood prone areas and also distribute sufficient kerosene oil.
He said that Bhagamandala, Nellyahudikeri, Guhya, Dubare, Karadigodu, Lakshmana Teerta and few other places are prone for flood and month of June and July were most dreaded due to heavy rainfall.
