Indo-Pak talks on relief to prisoners begin
New Delhi, Jun 10 (UNI) Talks on providing relief to civilian prisoners languishing in jails in India and Pakistan began in a meeting of a joint committee of legal luminaries in Islamabad yesterday.
The six-day deliberations, also mooting to investigate their cases, are being attended by Justices(retd) Nagendra Rai, Amarjeet Chaudhary, A S Gill and M A Khan.
The decision to constitute the panel was taken by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee during his Islamabad visit in January last year.
The committee was entrusted with the task of suggesting ways and means for humane treatment and early release of the prisoners.
The last meeting of the committee took place in New Delhi in February this year.
