Hang Afzal Guru immediately, says Thackeray

Mumbai, June 10 (UNI) Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray today said Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru should be hanged immediately.

In an editorial in the party's mouthpiece, Saamna, titled 'Afzalvar daya kara' (have mercy on Afzal), Mr Thackeray wrote that if he really wanted death, then he should withdraw the mercy petition.

The Sena chief was commenting on the consequence of Afzal Guru's interview, in which he had stated that he would prefer death to be a martyr for Kashmir.

Mr Thackeray said freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdeo, Ashfaqullah and Chapekar brothers never demanded clemency from British rulers and preferred to be martyrs.
