Gujjar protest: Sri Sri Ravi Shankar offers to mediate

Bayana, June 10: Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has arrived here perhaps to mediate between the Rajasthan government and Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla to defuse the 17-day imbroglio.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, BJPs state unit chief Gopi Nath Munde, party spokesperson Prakash Javedekar, state BJP president Om Prakash Mathur and other senior leaders called on Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. The spiritual guru is staying at the residence of Rajya Sabha MP Ram Das Agarwal. Earlier today, in what may be described as a complete summersault in his earlier stance, Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla agreed to hold talks with the Rajasthan Government in Jaipur on Wednesday. Bainsla, who had termed the first round of parleys on Monday as a "good beginning", made the two demands a pre-condition for the talks which were to be held in Jaipur, a senior state government official informed sources.

He said that the written commitment given by 70-year-old Bainsla in Bayana on Monday about holding of the next round of talks has been retracted.

"However we are making all efforts from our side" to revive the dialogue process, the official said on phone from Bayana.

Meanwhile, Bhim Singh Bika, the SHO of the Bayana police station, has registered a case against Kirori Singh Bainsla under Articles 121A, 124A, 147, 148 and 149, charging him of sedition.
