Cong MP demands NHRC probe into fake Dalit encounter case
Lucknow, June 10 (UNI) Union minister of state for steel and Congress MP Jitin Prasada has urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to send a team to Lakhimpur Kheri to investigate the atrocities by police on a Dalit family.
In his letter to the NHRC chairman Justice Rajendra Babu today, the union minister said only a probe by the commission could give justice to the dalit family.
According to the incident, police in a fake encounter on April 13, had shot dead Mishri Lal Pasi under Isanagar police station in the district.
Though the state government has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident, still the two policemen involved in the fake encounter were not transferred from the same police station.
The Union minister said the probe by the state government was just eyewash and all efforts were underway to protect the guilty policemen.
Meanwhile, Congress state spokesperson Virendra Madan in a separate release claimed that the law and order situation in the state had deteriorated with police harrassing the Dalits. ''When the people of the Dalit family are not safe in the state then what would happen to the people of other communities,'' he said.
Mr Madan also demanded that the state government immediately act accordingly to punish the guilty policemen involved in the fake encounter of a Dalit in Lakhipur Kheri.
