BJP burns PM's effigy in Tripura to protest fuel price hike
Agartala, Jun 10 (UNI) The Tripura unit of the BJP today staged demonstrations in front of the state Legislative Assembly against the price hike of fuel and LPG and burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
The party organised a protest rally in the state capital and submitted a memorandum to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and demanded to give subsidy on LPG, petrol and diesel.
BJP leaders alleged that the UPA government's decision to raise the price of diesel, petrol and LPG was to safeguard the interests of the business class in the country and instead transfer the burden on to the common man and spare the private oil companies.
''The poorest sections would be worst affected following the hike in petrol by Rs 5 per litre, diesel by Rs 3 per litre and cooking gas by Rs 50 per cylinder, which indicates that the government wants to sell India,'' BJP state unit spokesperson Ratan Das said.
