A child crushed by truck, another has providential escape

Barnala, Jun 10 (UNI) A ten-year-old child was crushed to death by a speeding truck while another had a providential escape near the Police Lines here today.

The boy Gurpreet, son of a labourer Raju Singh, was pillion riding behind his cousin on a bicycle on way to his aunt's house nearby, when a speeding truck hit the cycle.

While Gurpreet came under the back wheels of the truck, his cousin in the front was thrown to the other side and landed in a ditch.

Gurpreet died on the spot while his cousin escaped with minor injuries.

The truck driver Jagraj Singh tried to flee but an uncle of the children, who was following them at some distance, raised an alarm.

A PCR van was alerted which nabbed the driver and impounded the truck.

A case has been registered under sections 279, 304 of IPC against the truck driver, police said.
