55 thieves arrested, articles worth Rs 23 lakh recovered

Tiruchirapalli, Jun 10 (UNI) Police have arrested 55 criminals and recovered stolen property worth more Rs 23 lakh from them, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, Karan Singha said.

Talking to newspersons after handing over the articles to the original owners here yesterday, he said the recovered articles, included 180 sovereigns of gold jewellery, 15 motorcycles and cash of Rs one lakh.

The offences took place at different places in the district over the past few months, he said adding that of the 116 crime cases reported in various police stations in the last five months, the special teams have cracked 105 cases.
