5 injured in lathicharge, 5 held for blocking road in Pondy
Puducherry, Jun 10 (UNI) Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse a group of people today, who blocked the road without seeking police permission at Mettuppalayam.
According to police, several factory owners of Mettuppalayam industrial estate, workers in the industrial units and the general public in the area put up a road blockade on the main road to protest the frequent power cut in the estate and surrounding areas.
Police, who reached the spot asked them to disperse since the agitation was being organised without prior permission from the law enforcing authorities.
However, they refused to heed the request of the police personnel and instead, squatted on the road, forcing the police to resort to a mild lathicharge, injuring five people.
