2 detained for attacking Bhiwandi MLA's father

Thane, Jun 10 (UNI) Police have detained two people in connection with the attack on Ramesh Patil, father of Yogesh Patil, Shiv Sena MLA from Bhiwandi, here today.

Thane Joint Commissioner of Police Madhu Shinde told UNI that the miscreants had barged into the residence of Mr Patil and attacked his father around 0715 hrs today. Mr Patil senior was rushed to Jupiter hospital, where his condition was stated to be critical. Mr Yogesh Patil and his mother were also injured during the attack, he said.

Mr Shinde said the police were investigating into the incident.

Following the attack, Shiv Sena had called for a 'bandh' in Bhiwandi. Stone throwing incidents were reported in the town. Shops and business establishments had downed the shutters and only few vehicles were plying on the road.

Mr Shinde said the situation was under control, though tense.

Additional police personnel have been rushed to the town.
