Tripura Minister to be conferred with Bhasa Sahitya Samman

Agartala, June 9 (UNI) The literature foundation of the Tripura Bhasa Trust has announced to award the Bhasa Sahitya Samman 2008, the most prestigious recognition for literary achievement, to state Cultural Minister and renowned poet Anil Sarkar.

Addressing the media here today, Bhasa Trust president and veteran journalist Satyabrata Chakraborty said Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar would present the award to Mr Sarkar on behalf of the trust on June 15.

The trust has launched the award for the first time and it would be given every two years to legendary personalities in the literary field covering the entire Northeast region and Bangladesh, Mr Chakraborty said.

''Mr Sarkar entered the literary field in 1956 and has already penned about a hundred books and written thousands of poems, besides his three-decade old political activities,'' Mr Chakraborty underlined.
