Tribals stage novel agitation demanding social status
Mysore, Jun 9(UNI) A group of nomadic tribes today staged a day-long agitation in a novel way in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office demanding equality and social status in the society.
Nearly 200 members of various nomadic tribes residing in Ekalavyanagara on the outskirts of the city, cooked their food, weaved baskets, washed vessels and clothes and fed their toddlers at the venue of the agitation.
However, there were no slogan shouting but only songs they normally sang when they are free.
They displayed placards about their demand which included plea for school in their area, a primary health centre, laying of drainage pipelines, power and water supply,anganawadi, ration card and most importantly,the issue of ownership documents for their residence in the area.
