Sharif's PML finalises impeachment strategy
Islamabad, Jun 9 (UNI) Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has finalised a strategy to impeach embattled President Pervez Musharraf through a parliamentary resolution.
PPP co-chairman and fellow leader of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif in the country's coalition government, Asif Ali Zardari has given June 10 as the deadline to Musharraf to resign.
''If he does not announce his resignation by tomorrow, the PML-N, with its allied parties, will move the impeachment resolution against him,'' said Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, acting PML-N parliamentary leader in the National Assembly yesterday.
''After moving the impeachment resolution, more classified information would be placed before parliament,'' Nisar said a day after Musharraf announced he had no immediate plans to resign.
Nisar said the PML-N would prefer that the impeachment resolution was moved the very first day as it would not be in the interest of the country that Pervez Musharraf remained in office even for a single day.
''Musharraf's is a fit case to be tried for sedition,'' he added.
He said Musharraf was a symbol of dictatorship and was unreliable and could not be trusted any more.
''Musharraf violated the Constitution and also the oath that he took in the Army,'' he added.
Elaborating the PML-N's 10-point charge-sheet against Musharraf, Nisar said Pervez Musharraf imposed martial law in the country twice, violated the oath, put the elected Prime Minister in chains and jailed him in the Attock Fort, kept the judges of the superior court with their families in custody, made a 'misadventure plan' of Kargil and implemented it, without informing the elected government in 1999, due to which Pakistan suffered a huge loss of lives of armed forces personnel.
