Safety measures for pilgrims to Uttarakhand shrines

Chandigarh, June 9 (UNI) The Haryana government has prescribed certain safety norms for vehicles carrying pilgrims to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Sri Hemkund Sahib and other shrines in Uttarakhand.

The norms will be for vehicles registered in the state of Haryana. These norms mooted by the Haryana State Transport Department is intended to ensure a safe and comfortable journey of the pilgrims.

While stating this here today, a spokesman of the department said that on hilly routes, vehicles having 166 inches wheelage and over 50 per cent velocity will not be allowed. Music systems had also been banned.

All vehicles would have an emergency door and a driver cabin in case of buses and other medium or heavy vehicles. Only experienced drivers having five year old driving licence would be allowed to ply vehicles on the hill roads.
