London, Jun 9 : American actor Patrick Swayze is set to make his acting comeback after undergoing an intensive round of cancer treatment.

Swayze, who is recovering very well from his treatment, has been given the all clear by doctors to begin the filming of the TV drama series The Beast, and this will be the 55-year-old's first TV work in years.

The role that the Dirty Dancing star has been given is of an unorthodox FBI veteran training a partner who is spying on him.

"I can't wait to get to work on this," the Sun quoted Swayze as saying.

"I've searched for quite a long time to find a character so multi-layered, unpredictable and downright entertaining, as well as a project this current and cutting-edged," he said.

Production of the show will start in Chicago shortly and the series is set to air early next year on A and E in America.

Swayze had undergone treatment for pancreatic cancer, which included chemotherapy and new drugs, and network boss Bob DiBitetto said that the treatment is keeping the disease from spreading.

"We're thrilled to have Patrick on board," DiBitetto said.

"We've had candid conversations with him and his doctors and we have a fairly high degree of expectation that Patrick will be good to work a full production schedule," he said.

"It's amazing, it's inspiring, and it's almost unprecedented," Zack Van Amburg, co-president of Sony Pictures TV, who are to make The Beast, added.
