HC directs Centre, TN govt to provide adequate security to Jaya
Chennai, Jun 9 (UNI) Madras High Court today directed the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government to provide adequate security to AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa after ascertaining her security apprehensions.
Passing orders on a petition filed by Ms Jayalalithaa, Justice J Jaichandran said a Superintendent of Police level officer should ascertain her security apprehension and present a report.
The judge said the officer should call on Ms Jayalalithaa, ascertain her security apprehension and present the report to the Security Review Committee, which should take measures to augment her security within two weeks.
Ms Jayalalithaa, in her petition, apprehended threat to her life from the banned outfits. She alleged that her security has been drastically scaled down after the DMK came to power in May 2006.
As per the recommendations of the Committee, the Centre and the state government should provide adequate security to Ms Jayalalithaa, the judge further said.
''The court fully accepts the averments made by the petitioner that she faced threat to her life from the banned outfits'', the judge said.
Till the Security Review Committee presented its report, the ''Z Plus'' security being given to Ms Jayalalithaa, should continue, the judge added.
