Gold worth Rs 50 lakh, hawala money seized, 3 held

Kalpetta, Kerala, Jun 9 (UNI) Police seized gold worth Rs 50 lakh and more than Rs 5 lakh suspected hawala money in two separate raids and arrested three people at Kainatty in this hilly district early today.

Police said on a tip-off sleuths seized 4.615 kg gold from a Kozhikode-bound private bus from Bangalore and arrested Sathyan (34) and Prakashan (36), both hailing from Mokeri in Kozhikode district this morning.

In another raid, Rs 5,49,000 suspected hawala money was seized from another bus, also from Bangalore, and arrested Manzoor (22) of Kottakkal in Malappuram district, police said.

The seized contraband and the money would be handed over to the Enforcement Directorate after completing preliminary investigation, they added.
