Agitating farmers turn violent

Dharwad, Karnataka, Jun 9 (UNI) Three buses were set on fire and over 20 damaged when farmers protesting against inadequate supply of seeds and fertiliser turned violent here today.

Farmers, who resortd to 'rasta roko' for over four hours, turned violent and started pelting stones and also tried to loot private fertiliser shops in the city.

Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the agitating farmers.

Meanwhile, senior JD(S) leaders Basavaraj Horatti and P C Siddangoudar staged dharna for the same reason in front of Rani Chennamma Circle at Hubli for over two hours, disrupting traffic.

Tension continued to prevail in Dharwad near Jubilee Circle with farmers pelting stones at the police.

Additional forces were rushed to the spot, police said.
