UP Minister resigns after alleged involvement in police murder case

Lucknow, Jun 8 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Fisheries Jamuna Nishad resigned from the Mayawati ministry today after a murder case was registered against him in Maharajganj kotwali police station.

An FIR had been registered against Mr Nishad for killing police constable Krishnanand Rai inside the Maharajganj kotwali. He submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Mayawati.

The minister was summoned to the CM's residence this morning, where Ms Mayawati inquired about the entire incident from him.

Senior police officials were also present when the minister was summoned to the CM's house.

The meeting between the minister and the CM, which lasted around over one hour, decided that the minister should quit as the murder case has been registered against him.

Meanwhile, the state government has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 14 lakh to the family members of the deceased.
