UP Minister and his supporters kill police constable

Lucknow, June 8 (UNI) In a major embarrassment for the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh, an FIR has been registered against Minister of State for Fisheries Jamuna Nishad and over fifty of his supporters for allegedly killing a police constable inside the Maharajganj kotwali police station.

Inspector General of police( Gorakhpur zone) G P Sharma said investigation were underway into the incident in which police constable Krishnanad Rai was killed last night by a bullet shot.

According to the inspector the minister and his supporters barged into the permises of the Kotwali in Maharajganj town in order to put pressure on the police to lodge a rape complaint against a culprit of his area.

However, when the constable refused to entertain them, as the medical report was negative, the minister got annoyed and his supporters started ransacking the police station. When they were opposed, the supporters opened fire in which Krishnanand Rai was killed, Mr Sharma said.

Later the minister and his supporters fled the scene and the FIR was registered early today.

Meanwhile, the minister refused that he was present during the incident and blamed political rivalry behind the conspiracy. On the other hand senior state police were also quiet over the incident and were waiting for direction from the government after lodging the FIR.

Reports said the minister and his supporters also tried to loot the ' Malkhana' of the police station and even beat up the police and homeguards there.

Jamuna Nishad is the BSP MLA from Pipraich Assembly seat in Gorakhpur district.
