'Tight laws' will curb terrorism in country: Kaartikeyan
Hyderabad, Jun 8 (UNI) Former CBI Director and head of the investigation into former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, Dr Kaarthikeyan today said 'there is need to tighten up laws to prevent the violence sponsored by the terrorist organisations in the country in future'.
Speaking to newspersons here, Mr Kaartikeyan said 'the Government should give additional powers to police and select the meritorious persons to curb the terrorist activities. We cannot prevent violence if the candidates were not selected on merit basis'.
Stating that responsibility and accountability should be inculcated in every police person, he said officials who misused the power should be punished immediately'.
Expressing concern over the interference of 'politics' in the police department, the former IPS official said investigation into the blast cases that ripped through several cities recently would not progress once the political pressure increased on the investigation officers.
