Three diamond thieves nabbed in Surat
Surat, Jun 8 (UNI) Police today arrested three members of a gang for allegedly stealing diamonds worth Rs one crore last week in the city.
According to police, a five-member gang of thieves targeted only diamond merchants in the city. The gang had looted diamonds worth Rs one crore from Akshar Diamonds in Surat last week. One of them is still at large.
Describing their modus operandi, police said the gang would first get employment at a diamond cutting and polishing unit and then make a survey and decide on their target. After collecting all the information, they would strike and used to commit the crime.
The arrested accused were identified as Jayanti Vasoya, Jitendra Savaliya and Jitesh Sankaliya, all from Rajkot. Of them, jayarte and Jitendra are relatives. Ramesh, brother of Jitendra, is still at large.
They have admitted to looting diamonds worth Rs 40 lakh last year in Surat.
A manhunt has been launched to nab Ramesh, police added.
