RPO conducts 'Passport Adalat'in city
Tiruchirapalli, Jun 8 (UNI) As many as 687 applicants, who had applied for passports attended a day-long 'Passport Adalat' conducted by the Regional Passport Office(RPO) here.
In a press release, RPO S Balachandran yesterday said Adalat was conducted for the applicants, covering 16 districts, under the jurisdiction of the Tiruchirapalli Passport Office, before opening of a new passport office at Madurai on December 17 last year.
Mr Balachandran said about 90 per cent of the cases were resolved at the Adalat and passports would be despatched within ten days. Since the RPO had cleared its pending work, it has been decided to lift the restriction of entertaining only 350 applicants a day hereafter, he added.
The Officer said, henceforth all applicants were advised to submit their applications before 1200 hrs on any given working day in the office. The office would issue fresh passports with in 21 days, if the police reports were in order. Renewal of passports would be done in five days, he added.
He said from January to May, RPO received 56,239 applications and issued 85,390 passports, including pending cases.
