One arrested for trying to assault education minister

Nagpur, June 8 (UNI) One person was arrested for allegedly trying to assault Maharashtra Minister for Education Vasant Purke at Amravati in the Vidarbha region, police said today.

Prakash Sonone, husband of a school teacher, had given a memorandum about some problem that his wife Vanmala was facing, to Mr Purke last evening.

The minister assured to look into the matter, but unsatisfied with the reply, Sonone suddenly grabbed Mr Purke's collar and tried to assault him, they said.

The minister's personal security officer intervened and took Sonone out of the room. Later, on the basis of the security officer's complaint, an offence was registered against Sonone and he was placed under arrest, police added.

Vanmala is a former municipal councillor of the BJP.
