Modern DAV Sports School to come up in Punjab

Chandigarh,Jun 8 (UNI) The DAV College Managment Committee has proposed to construct a modern sports school spread over area of 25 acre at Dera Bassi.

This dream vision of Mr G P Chopra, President of the DAV College Managing Committee, is on the verge of becoming a reality with the acquisition of land between Dera Bassi and Barwala, about 25 km from here.

The mega project is awaiting the final nod from the DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi. No other educational institution could have handled such a large project in a short span of time. The DAV institutions are the biggest network of schools and colleges who have thrown up national champions in every sports discipline.

The only other sports school running in the region, Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai (Sonepat district), has an area of 100 acres.

But it has too much of area devoted to buildings and almost half of it is still covered by forests.The other sports insitution is the Sports College at Jalandhar.

The massive project, a 10+2 sports school, will take time to be fully complete. But once the work starts the authorities plan to get going after the completion of the basic infrastructure which would include an administrative block, a few classrooms, playfields, athletic track, sports hostel (probably dormitories), flats for teachers and sports coaches.
