Maoist surrenders in AP

Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Jun 8 (UNI) A naxal and member of the Galikonda Military Platoon of the Maoists, Kakuri Balaiah alias Bujji Babu (23), today surrendered before East Godavari Superintedent of Police (SP) P Y Nagireddi.

Hailing from Puttakota Village of G K Veedhi Mandal in Visakhapatnam District, he joined the underground movement in 2002 and worked as member of local guerilla squads of Galikonda and Palakajeedi Dalams before joining the military platoon.

He told the SP that his deteriorating health had prompted him to surrender besides the fear of getting arrested. The naxal carried a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head.

The SP handed over Rs 5,000 as immediate assistance as a part of the relief package.
