Man sentenced to 10-year RI under Arms Act

Porbandar, Jun 8 (UNI) A fast track court here has handed down ten-year imprisonment to a man under the Arms Act for possessing illegal arms.

Justice B M Mahida yesterday convicted Bhikhu Velji Lodhari, alias Bhikhu Dadhi. He was arrested on August 1996 for possessing illegal arms when anti-terrorist squad sleuths had raided the ice factory and godowns of the convict on a tip-off.

Police had then recovered 29 weapons, including an AK-47 rifle.

The weapons seized were worth Rs 31 lakh.

Justice Mahida also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him.

Two others were acquitted for lack of evidence.
