Cancer screening for women at Western Command hospital

Chandigarh, Jun 8 (UNI) As part of its 48th Raising Day celebrations, Command Hospital organised an exclusive camp for women for cancer awareness and screening at Chandimandir today.

Around 1000 ladies of the station were checked up during the Camp and counseled for various common cancers occurring amongst women.

Inaugurating the camp, Mrs Bina Aul, Officiating President Western Command Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), praised the initiative taken by the hospital in this regard and said that symptoms of cancer, especially of the breast and cervix , were often ignored by most women mainly because of lack of awareness.

Such camps would go a long way in sensitizing women of all age groups in this aspect, thus helping in early detection of cancer, she added.

Speaking on the occasion, Maj Gen Shamsher Singh, Commandant, Command Hospital said that the hospital has recently created an oncology ward and a mammography unit which would beinaugurated shortly. A case for establishing a radiation therapy unit has already been taken up at the highest level, which would enable the hospital to take complete care of its cancer patients, he added.
