5 suspected militants killed in Manipur

Imphal, June 8 : At least five suspected militants have been killed in separate militancy-related incidents in Manipur, official sources said on Sunday.

After receiving a tip-off, police commandos along with the Assam Rifles personnel were checking some passers-by at Lairenpat area near Imphal on Saturday night. Out of a sudden three persons from a car started firing at them.

The three were killed in the ensuing shootout, the sources said.

According to the police, they might be members of Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL). Police also recovered two nine mm pistols and a carbine from the car.

In another incident, Assam Rifles personnel shot dead a suspected member of United National Liberation Fornt (UNLF) at Irengban area in Thoubal district on Saturday, sources said.

One nine mm pistol with some rounds of ammunition was also recovered from him, the sources said.

The man was identified as Pukhram Bam Raju (32).

In the third incident, a suspected militant identified as Haobisam Sarat Chandra (36) was gunned down at Muramba Loukon area in Thoubal district on Saturday by unidentified gunmen.
