PMK joins issue with CM on fee in pvt colleges

Chennai, Jun 7 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Founder-Leader S Ramadoss today joined issue with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi over the issue of fixing the fee structure for self- financing colleges in the state.

In a statement here, the PMK leader said the reasons advanced by the Chief Minister for doubling the fee for seats under management quota were surprising.

He said the Chief Minister had given a 'confessional' statement saying the fee of Rs 32,500 fixed last year for management quota remained on paper and the self-financing colleges collected fee at their will.

Even now, these colleges have said the enhanced fee of Rs 62,500 was not acceptable, he said and asked what was the guarantee they would not collect more than the amount fixed by the government.

''If the Chief Minister says these colleges have ignored the GO and collected lakhs of rupees from the students last year, then, is a jungle rule prevailing in the state?'' he further asked.

Despite armed with laws, the government was not taking action against private colleges which collected capitation fee, he said.

Referring to the Chief Minister's claim that the decision on fee fixation was taken after a meeting with the alliance parties, he said only leaders of the legislature parties were consulted.
