Oz scientists find relief for diabetes sufferers
Sydney, Jun 7 (UNI) In a major relief for diabetes sufferers, Australian researchers found that lowering blood sugar to below recommended levels can significantly reduce the risk of serious health complications.
Doctors from the George Institute for International Health here conducted an international study to help improve the health of millions of patients with type two diabetes.
In the study of 11,000 patients, half were put on high doses of a medication which lowered sugar levels, and the others were given standard diabetes treatment.
The team found lowering blood sugar to below recommended levels reduced the probability of serious complications by 10 per cent and was also effective in preventing kidney complications which killed one in five diabetic patients, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
