Musharraf rules out resignation
Islamabad, June 7 : Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday said he could not resign in current situation, and added that he is not looking for confrontation, but a reconciliation with his opponents.
Musharraf has been under pressure to resign since his ally, PML-Q, lost parliamentary elections in February. Frequent reports carried by the media mentioned that he has made up his mind to step down and could even go into exile.
Addressing a press conference here, Musharraf said, "I have not decided to resign. I will remain in Pakistan. I do not have any house outside Pakistan. Rumours about my resignations are rubbish."
Musharraf said that he could not resign in current situation and if anyone wants to impeach him, there is constitutional procedure available for it.
Musharraf said that political and economical situation of the country is worst and he is always talking about reconciliation.
When asked about whether he would opt the option of resignation or use Article 58-2B if he feels that present government has failed, Musharraf said he does not want to discuss the other option.
If Parliament could seize his powers, whether he wants to continue as president, Musharraf said that he would take the decision when the moment comes. He said that he would respect the decision of Parliament.
About impeachment, the president said if anyone wants to impeach him, there is a constitutional procedure.
Rejecting disgraced scientist Dr. A Q Khan's statement that he was pressurized; Musharraf said that Pakistan had faced embarrassment because of him, The News reported.
