DAN condemns fuel hike

Kohima, June 7: The ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland(DAN) today condemned the steep rise in fuel prices by the Centre.

In an official communique here Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said the resource rich states may be able to cushion the public from the rising prices through subsidies, for smaller and resource-starved states like Nagaland, the Centre's decision would have serious impact on the already rising prices of essential commodities.

''Whenever the Central government takes such major policy decisions the people of the North East have to bear the maximum burden of price rise coupled with the high transportation costs of bringing in essential commodities,'' he said.

Mr Rio said the state government's efforts to rein in the rising prices by fixing the prices of essential commodities through the district level committees had been largely successful.
